Benriach

Found 123

Known for its distinct single malt Scotch whisky, the Benriach distillery has earned multiple awards. It was founded back in 1898 by John Duff, in Scotland’s Speyside region. Benriach had a sister distillery called Longmorn, which was also owned by Duff. Connected by a train track, a steam locomotive would regularly transport materials between these two properties. Alas, due to the decline of its principal buyer, Benriach was forced to close down, along with many other Scottish distilleries. It laid dormant for almost 65 years, only producing maltings for Longmorn.

It was reopened in 2008 by the Benriach Distillery Company Limited. The revival was worth the long wait, given that Benriach currently produces over 2.8 million litres of the spirit per year. Their selections offer a great deal of variety, but few can match the smoky aroma of their single malt Scotch whisky. Aged 12 and 15 years, respectively, one could say that it captures the spirit of the area in liquid form.
