In 1971, businessman Joe Martin and his wife Emma purchased 100 acres of vineyards Behler Ranch in Sonoma Valley, the historic town of Kenwood. In 1979, after several years of selling grapes to local wineries, Joe founded the Wine House and built his own winery. Winery christened in honor of St. Francis of Assisi in recognition of his role as a defender of nature and as a recognition of the Franciscan Order, which is believed to have suffered a first great European experience of growing grapes in the New World.
Today, Joe Martin owns vineyards located in the heart of Sonoma Valley, and produces rich wine with a rich flavor. Each wine is made from the finest, hand-picked grapes Sonoma County and is a direct expression of the philosophy of winemaking St. Francis - "maximum extraction, minimal intervention." Wine House St. Francis committed strongly flavored and complex wines. It is for this reason was chosen Sonoma with its rich diversity of soils and microclimates. Each of the vineyards of the valley has its own microclimate, all parts of Sonoma are perfect for growing wine grapes.
