Interesting Facts
"Rocky Coast" - a premium line of wines of the economy with the same name. The first wines of "Rocky Coast" are made from grapes with vines aged 10 years. Winemakers have been waiting for ideal conditions for a long time to create their honest debut wine. It tells about the local terroir better than words.
"Rocky Coast" Chardonnay is made from grapes grown on rocky soil, consisting of the remains of shells, molluscs and fish that lived here millions of years ago, and giving the grapes "old world" notes. Harvested by hand at the end of August, destemmed, gently crushed and pressed. The resulting wort is clarified by settling and fermented: 60% in stainless steel tanks, 40% in new barriques and a ton of French oak, followed by aging there on yeast lees for 12 months. Wine storage potential is 5-7 years.
The symbol of wine is a large owl - the most powerful and strong bird of the surviving species of owls. The eagle owl lives on the territory of the winery, in nearby forests and in the Utrish reserve. It is listed in the Red Book as a species that is declining in numbers. His wise look and imposing appearance inspired winemakers to a thoughtful Chardonnay , aged in an oak barrel.
Producer's description
Gravity-type winery "Rocky Coast" was founded in the village of Varvarovka near Anapa in 2010. The original building of the winery with a top floor in the form of sea pebbles is located in the middle of a magnificent hilly landscape with vineyards covering 32 hectares. Sophisticated technology and functional content are contained in an expressive form that corresponds to the objectives of the project and the characteristics of the landscape. Wine aging workshop is located in the rock underground, where the temperature is always maintained at 15 degrees. The name "Rocky Coast" has a French equivalent of "Cote Rocheuse", since it produces mainly wines from French grape varieties: Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay.
The philosophy of "Rocky Coast" is formed by processing the historical heritage and carefully weaving advanced technologies into traditional winemaking methods. At the same time, "Rocky Coast" rethinks the production of wines of the highest quality in terms of the conscious consumption of natural resources. The ecosystem approach is the most important condition for preserving the unique terroir of the "Rocky Coast" and the surrounding nature. The company supports the Federal State Budgetary Institution Reserve "Utrish", which is located in close proximity to the winery, and participates in the protection of rare animals by purchasing modern research equipment for the reserve. Images of rare species of animals living in the territory of the winery can be seen on the labels of wines.
In 2021, the winery received a diploma in the "Golden Section" and was among the finalists of one of the largest international competitions WAF in the nomination "Production, Energy, Processing".
