The history of the winery Santa Carolina began in 1875, when the rich visionary entrepreneur Luis Pereira Kotapos decided to take part in the ambitious project of winemaking in South America and bought land in Chile, in Santiago. The history of the Siegel family winery began more than 40 years ago when, in 1980, Alberto Siegel Daulsberg, the founder of the company, planted the first vines in the Colchagua Valley. Alberto's father, Siegel Lubbe, was an outstanding German architect who built some of the most famous buildings in Santiago in the 20th century, many of which became a cultural heritage, including the Reserva Federal de Chile building. Alberto Daulsberg's love of art has been bloody since childhood, but he did not follow in the footsteps of his father. The boy found himself in the art of winemaking and viticulture. He studied agronomy, and then worked at some wineries in Germany, where he gained invaluable experience. Fascinated by the extraordinary potential of the Chilean terroir, Alberto Siegel subsequently founded a winery there. And for several decades now, family secrets of winemaking have been carefully passed from father to son. Alberto worked for more than 30 years in the vineyards, personally planting every vine and passing on his love of the land and respect for the environment to his children.
Siegel currently has over 700 hectares of vineyards planted in seven different areas, each of which has unique terroir characteristics. Vineyards stretch from the foothills of the Andes to the coastal zones of the Pacific Ocean. As a result of the devastating earthquake that took place in 2010, Alberto Siegel was forced to reconstruct the winery step by step. Alberto also paid attention to the modernization of the winery, introducing new modern technologies and equipment (stainless steel tanks with automatic micro-oxygenation system, automatic bottling line, etc.) that meets international quality standards.
Today, the winery is certified according to the HACCP standards and the Code for the sustainable development of the Chilean wine industry.
