The history of the winery Santa Carolina began in 1875, when the rich visionary entrepreneur Luis Pereira Kotapos decided to take part in the ambitious project of winemaking in South America and bought land in Chile, in Santiago. The name of the winery was born in the name of his beloved wife of Louis - Carolina Iñiguez Vicuña. Luis Pereira invited to Chile a group of three French experts led by the famous enologist Germain Bachelet, who took the best land for vines Chile noble grape varieties from the Bordeaux region - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay. Together with their families, they settled in Chile and began to work on the plantations and the new winery. With the French architect Emile Doyere was contracted to design and construction of the main warehouse of the winery, which should provide optimum conditions for storing wine in oak barrels in order to ensure high standards of care. The result of this collaboration was so incredible that the warehouse in 1973 was declared a national monument and has remained unchanged and valid to this day.
