Interesting Facts
San Silvestro, Barolo "Patres" is an exquisite matured dry red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the north of Italy, in Piedmont. The Barolo wine-making zone includes 11 villages: Barolo, La Morra, Castiglione Faletto, Monforte d'Alba, Serralunga d'Alba, Roddy, Verduro, Cherasco, Grenzane Gavur, Diano d'Alba, Novello. It is believed that the name of the variety comes from fogs ("nebbia" - fog), which descend on the vineyards. However, local winemakers claim that the name of the variety means "noble" ("nebbieu" in Piedmont - noble). Harvested by hand. Vinification carried out by traditional technology. The total period of aging of wine is 38 months, of which 18 months - in large barrels of Slavonian oak, and then in bottles. Elegant and balanced Barolo "Patres" perfectly reflects the features of the terroir. This wine is for people who want to discover something new, and for those who already love Barolo. Wine storage capacity is 10 years.

Producer's description
Since 2006, San Silvestro has been headquartered in Novello, in the heart of the Barolo district. Here Paolo and Guido Sartirano run the business with wisdom and respect for the traditions and history of the family, of which they are the fourth generation. The brothers cherish the work done by their family to achieve today's success, which is based on investing in innovation, attention to tradition, technology and quality. These are just some of the key factors that characterize San Silvestro. The history of the winery began in 1871, when Giovanni Sartirano began to produce and sell their wines in the region of Lange. The name of the company comes from a place in the village of Narzole.
San Silvestro works with traditional Piedmont grape varieties such as Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Grignolino, Arneis, Cortese and Moscato. Every glass of wine from San Silvestro embodies the uniqueness of the great region of Piedmont. The company owns 7 hectares of its own vineyards, but the company also buys grapes, working in close cooperation with the growers from different areas. This is a common situation for many wineries of Piedmont, which was already used in the XIX century. At that time, many winegrowers who owned small plots could not afford the cost of vinification and preferred to focus their work on growing grapes and selling the crop to large wineries. These partnerships were created on the basis of long-term contracts that could last for several generations. Thus, trust and cooperation became fundamental for both parties.
Professional and rigorous selection of winegrowers is a strong point of San Silvestro. Today, under the control of the agronomist, Professor Carlo Arnulfo, the growers of San Silvestro are working hard to achieve a high standard of quality. Most of the production, about 88%, is exported abroad.
