Interesting Facts
Leon Barbier arrived in Catalonia over a century ago from France, where the vineyards of the family Barbier in 1870 phylloxera destroyed. Barbier moved to Tarragona, where he began to apply their knowledge of the French tradition of wine making in terms of climate and soil of Catalonia. As a result of experiments, he began producing high-quality red, white and rose wines. Leon Barbier was also the first who began selling bottled wine. Like most wineries in the region, Penedes is a family business. The new owner after the death of his son Leon Rene, who modernized and improved the winery, from year to year maintains the tradition of his father. Today Penedes - one of the largest wineries in Europe, including a 9000 square meter cellar, surrounded by 120 hectares of vineyards.
