Reviews of purchase Porto Carras, "LimNeon" Meliton PDO
Wine of deep ruby color.
The taste of wine is silky and well balanced. Perceptible acidity and expressive velvety tannins give a magnificent volume along with tones of cherry, plum, leather, pepper, cloves and vanilla with a long aftertaste.
The generous aroma of wine is full of shades of ripe red fruits, wild berries, vanilla, leather and black pepper.
Wine blends perfectly with Mediterranean cuisine, cheeses, white and red meats, barbecue ribs and oriental beef dishes.
Porto Carras, "LimNeon" - a modern wine from the harvest of the oldest Greek grape variety, mentioned by Aristotle in his notes. "LimNeon" is a play on words (Limnio + Neon), which indicates the undoubted brightness of this variety. Organic vineyards are located at an altitude of 200-250 meters above sea level on sandy-clay soils. In the production of wine used the traditional method of vinification using selected yeast at a controlled temperature. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.
The slopes of Mount Meliton, mentioned in the many texts of ancient Greece, were intended by nature for the cultivation of grapes. Traveling to the shores of St. Athos in 1963, Yannis Karras saw them, and at first sight fell in love with the virgin beauty of this corner of Greece. The first vineyards of Porto Carras appeared in 1965 and marked the beginning of a real revolution in the wine-making industry of Greece of that time. 475 hectares of organic planting of vines surrounded by ancient forests has become one of the most extensive in Europe. Due to the exceptional climatic conditions of this area, diseases of the vine are eliminated only by biological methods, which is considered one of the rarest cases.
Since 2000, the group of companies "Tekhnikis Olimbiakis" actively participates in the modernization of the winery Porto Carras . The president, Konstantinos Stengos, set the priority of bringing the distillery to the top of the market. His daughter. Iliana Stengu, today is engaged in the estate and the development of local Greek varieties. Since then, not only the plant has undergone a number of changes and upgrades, but also vineyards. From 2002 to 2013, more than 800 hectares of new vineyards were planted in different plots with 28 varieties, which are ideal for the production of wines with original flavoring qualities.
