Winery Urbans-Hof was founded in 1947 by Nikolaus Weiss, the grandfather of the current owner. Vineyards are located in the city of Leiwen, in the Moselle region. Nikolaus built a wine production plant and named it in honor of the patron of German winemakers, St. Urban.
In the sixties of the last century, the management of the family business was undertaken by the son of Nikolaus, Hermann. He proved himself to be an experienced vine grower, especially with the Riesling variety. It was Hermann who contributed to the spread of this variety in Canada, landing the first site with Riesling in the Niagara Falls area. Now this vineyard belongs to the company Vineland Estates.
In 1997 Herman was joined by his son, Nick. Together, they restructured the vineyards, selling plots with low quality technical grades and purchasing land parcels of higher quality. To date, the total area of the vineyards is 33 hectares, they are used organic methods of cultivation of vines.
