Reviews of purchase Monteverro, "Verruzzo di Monteverro", Toscana IGT, 2017
Tasting Notes
The wine is a deep cherry color with a purple rim.
The taste of wine shows good maturity, structured tannins and soft, elegant acidity. The dense core of shades of ripe red fruits is surrounded by hints of mocha, smoke, tar and dry herbs. The finish is long, harmonious, with floral touches and nuances of sweet spices for baking.
Beautiful notes of rose and lavender petals in the aroma of wine are replaced by tones of fresh strawberries, raspberries and black currants. After aeration, subtle notes of spices and sweet spices appear in the background.
The wine goes well with simple dishes, pasta, fried poultry and Tuscan cheeses.
Interesting Facts
"Verruzzo di Monteverro", Toscana IGT is an elegant cuvé that, thanks to its presence in the Sangiovese blend, pays tribute to the Tuscan winemaking traditions and at the same time has the spirit of Monteverro, including the classic Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From the Italian "verruzzo" is the affectionate nickname of a young boar, which are found in abundance on the Monteverro estate. After vinification in steel tanks, the wine is aged for about a year in previously used oak barrels. It is charming even in youth, soft, affordable and is a universal companion to various dishes. It owes its dynamic character to Sangiovese, strength and structure to Cabernet Sauvignon, spice to Cabernet Franc, softness to Merlot.
Producer's description
Monteverro's vast economy extends over 60 hectares on the southern outskirts of Tuscany in Maremma. This region, known for its authenticity and traditions, is characterized by proximity to the sea, a love of life and a passion for art, but also heavy, uncompromising agricultural labor. The local wines owe their success not only to the magnificent exposure, sea breezes and rocky red clay soils, but also to the people who make Monteverro so unique. The winemaker, Gene Hofliger, carefully monitors the quality of their products.
Of the entire land adjacent to the Monteverro farm, vineyards occupy only 35 hectares. The rest of the territory is reserved for olive groves, shrubs and a lake surrounded by old cork oaks. The king of nature is considered a wild boar, in whose honor the company is named. "Verro" in the language of the locals means "wild boar." All human activity here is subordinate to nature: even the architectural solution of the winery was determined by the desire to merge to the maximum with the surrounding landscape.
