Producer's description
The wine company Moillard dates back to 1850, from the Belgian notary Simforen Moyyar, who in 1848 married Margaret Griva, owner of the vine plantations. In 1873, their daughter married Maurice Tom, who owned extensive vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Thanks to this, the house of Moillard significantly expanded its activities, erecting new cellars for a thousand barrels, designed by the Dijon architect Charles Suyi. Soon Moyar became one of the most influential wine houses in Burgundy.
The First World War dealt a heavy blow to the enterprise. All its production facilities and reserves were destroyed. Built at the end of the fighting, Moyar's house in the 30s of the 20th century successfully survived a major financial crisis, helping to survive other Burgundy winemakers. For this he was called "Banquier de la Bourgogne". In the 1940s, Moyar, resisting the coming hard times, is building another basement - this time by 1,5 thousand barrels. The postwar quiet time allowed the fifth generation of Simporen Moyyar's descendants to expand production and take a firm position in the open markets of Europe.
In 2000, the house of Moillard celebrated its 150th anniversary. On this occasion, its large cellars were decorated with a 120-meter mosaic fresco. It represents the local landscapes in four seasons, they are traversed through the image of the historical train PLM - the exact copy of what was brought for the first time by the notary Moyar in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Wines produced by Moillard come on sale with a wide variety of labels. You can find variations of Tom-Moyar, Moyar Grivo, Charles Toma, Moyar Domain, Domin Charles Toma, Thomas-Moyar Domain, Mezon Moyar Grivo and Mezon Moyar. This is due to the types of wines produced by Moillard and legal differences.
