Name "Tequila" is protected by law in Mexico and made the drink only in certain regions of the Mexican states: Jalisco, Tamaulipas ??, Guanajuato, Michoacan and Nayarit. Tequila gained popularity after Mexico in 1821 gained independence from the influence of Spain. By the early twentieth century, a strong alcoholic drink was associated with the Mexican Revolution and was a symbol of the new nation.
