Company founder Umberto Cesari Sangiovese devoted his entire life. Father Umberto hoped that his son would continue his business and devote himself to the sale of wine. But Umberto decided to invest its resources in the production of quality wines Sangiovese. In the 60s of the quality wines of Emilia-Romagna was far from perfect. Umberto Cesari, a pioneer in his field, was among the first who believed that from Sangiovese can produce great wines. In 1967 he bought a small vineyard in the hills of Castel San Pietro and founded the company that bears his name. With these first 20 hectares of vineyards begins the path that led to the title of Umberto Cesari one of the best producers of Emilia-Romagna. The company gradually expanded and now Umberto Cesari owns 120 hectares in the heart of Emilia-Romagna, and its Sangiovese wines have become a whole milestone not only in Italian, but also the international wine industry. Proof of this is the victory in 2003 and 2007 at the international competition "International Wine & Spirit Competition" in the category "Sangiovese". Sangiovese production of high quality is the cornerstone of the philosophy of Umberto Cesari.
Vineyards on hillsides in Castel San Pietro Terme is located at an altitude of 300 to 450 meters above sea level. Here reigns a mild climate which, together with good ventilation makes this area ideal for viticulture. The main varieties grown here - it Sangiovese, Albana, Trebbiano and Pignoletto, but there are also international varieties such as Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, used to create the blended wines.
The team of winemakers and agronomists are constantly working under the direction of Umberto Cesari not only on the production of quality wines, but also in research and innovation, in cooperation with the University of Bologna. Each year the company invests 5% of its turnover in the development and improvement of agricultural practices and care. All methods of growing grapes based on a huge respect for the environment.
