Interesting Facts
Duche des Papes, Chateauneuf-du-Pape - the classic wine of the Châteauneuf-du-Pap region. It is beautiful both at a young age and after a long exposure. Its blend is made by varieties Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Senso. Grapes undergo traditional fermentation at a controlled temperature with daily lowering of the “cap” from the pulp rising to the surface. After fermentation, the wine is aged 2 years in concrete tanks.
Producer's description
Martin and Jean-Louis Giornal , passionate about wine and nature, bought a small estate north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in 1999. The property extended over 3.5 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and 3 hectares of Côtes-du-Rhône. Over time, the original “hobby” turned into a full-time job, which Martin and Jean-Louis pursued with patience, diligence and passion. The vineyards cultivated by the Giornal family today extend over 15 hectares.
Florence and Thomas, both holders of PhDs in chemistry, are passionate about wine and have been running the family-owned La Durbane Vineyards since 2019. To do this, they left their jobs in the pharmaceutical industry and left Switzerland to return to their roots in the south of France and together make their dream come true. Curious and passionate, Florence learns to bring new ideas and try new experiences to build on the work of the previous generation. Thomas, a German by birth, became interested in the world of wine and viticulture thanks to contacts with Florence. Careful and painstaking research gave him the necessary tools to work in the vineyard. This is what drives him to constantly strive to improve his understanding of terroir and the physiology of the grapevine in order to achieve greater precision in the production of wines. Since 2020, the process of transitioning family vineyards to organic farming has begun.
