Vinification took place in stainless steel tanks under temperature control. The maceration period lasted 2-4 hours, and the subsequent fermentation - 8-10 days. Wine ripens in the same containers for 6 months. After bottling the wine is stabilized in the cellar for at least 6 weeks before being sold.
Kolkmann - a real family winery, which employs four generations. The interaction and cohesion of the family allow us to achieve our goals in the production of excellent wines.
Life is the story of people, and the story of the Kolkman winery is exciting and touching. It is characterized by coincidences and unpredictable turns. The ancestor is Horst Sen Kolkman, who as a child came from Germany to a farm in Lower Austria. Here he decided to stay after the end of the Second World War and met his future wife. The first vineyard of one and a half hectares jointly acquired in 1964 in Wagram was attached to the bride’s dowry, creating the basis for the company's current holdings, which currently occupy 42 hectares. Since then, the family lives in viticulture, overcoming difficulties, ups and downs only together. Subsequently, they were joined by sons, Gerhard and Horst, who also contributed to the family business.
In 1988, Kolkmann won one of the most difficult and prestigious competitions in the country "Salon Osterreichischer Wein" with red wine "Zweigelt Spatlese 1986". It is all the more honorable that mainly white wines are made in Wagram. In the future, the company has twice won the Grand Prix of this competition, but already with the white wines of Gruner Veltliner and Chardonnay.
In 1994, Horst Sen officially handed over the company to his sons, who were joined by his grandchildren. Family cohesion is the foundation on which the Kolkmann winery develops.
