Wine Keermont, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2016
Reviews of purchase Keermont, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2016
The wine is bright raspberry red.
The taste of wine is powerful, silky. Lush spicy tones of red fruits are complemented by velvety notes of blueberries and blackberries. Dense tannins and pure acidity give strength to a delicate finish.
The aroma of wine is a complex mixture of piquant shades of chopped herbs, violets, sandalwood, leather and beautiful tones of red fruits.
Wine can accompany red meat, pasta and pizza.
Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grow in Cottage Lane on the slopes of Gelderberg. The site is located on the crest of the ridge and is characterized by low vines with low productivity. Its clay soils give the wine strength, tension and fresh acidity. In the Keermont, Cabernet Sauvignon varietal wine , when blended, a couple of barrels of other red varieties are added to add complexity to the bouquet and structured tannins.
Small batches of grapes are sorted by maturity and vinified separately. Maceration and spontaneous fermentation is carried out in open-top fermenters, the pulp cap is punched 1-2 times a day for 3 weeks. The wine is aged for 22 months in 225-liter French oak barrels, and then bottled manually without filtration. A total of 4773 bottles were filled, which were still in the cellar for 18 months before release. The optimal period for using the Keermont, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2014 vintage is in 2018-2030.
Keermont Vineyards Distillery, along with its vineyards, is located near Stellenbosch in the beautiful valleys of South Africa. She got her name in honor of the old Keerweder farm, which was once located on these lands. The word "keerweder" means "blocked, limited", which indicates the features of the landscape, which did not allow the first settlers to pass through the valley.
The winery and vineyards are located in the shadow of the Guardian peak, due to which the sun after sunrise illuminates them a little later than in the rest of the region. This effect, combined with the high location of the vineyards, leads to very cool night and morning temperatures, contributing to the slow ripening and excellent phenolic maturity of the grapes.
Mark and Monica Wright acquired this land by buying Fleurfontein and Keerweder III farms in 2003. They combined them at Keermont Vineyards Estate. In 2005, the company began large-scale planting of vineyards, which today amount to 27 hectares. Keermont, under the guidance of an experienced winemaker, Alex Starei, strives to create wines that reflect the soul of their beautiful land and the character of each year, for which it uses chemical fertilizers only in extreme cases, and the wine does not filter or lighten. This creates their natural, harmonious wines that meet the stringent requirements for high-quality products.
