Producer's description
Peter Mertes is a family winery founded in 1924. Initially, it was a small winery in the village of Minheim on the Moselle. In 1950, the son of Peter Mertes - Gustav Willkom - actively studied the regions along the Rhine: Oppenheim, Bingen, Mainz. And already in 1960, the family acquired plots in the Rheingau and Nahe.
Today, Peter Mertes has its head office in Bernkastel-Kues, many vineyard sites throughout Germany, the largest wine cellar in the country and employs more than 300 professional employees.
Wine production at Peter Mertes is under the strict control of professional winemakers who monitor the grape harvest, assess the degree of its maturity and carefully select only the highest quality berries. After filtration and stabilization, the wines must be subjected to laboratory research in order to determine their organoleptic characteristics. Only upon completion of laboratory research wines are bottled and go on sale.
