Producer's description
At the end of the seventeenth century, François Cattana, born in a Swiss commune in the canton of Jura, moved to the small Alsatian village of Woogtlinshoffen, located 10 kilometers south of Colmar. In 1720, Francois Cattan decided to become a winemaker in addition to his work as a bricklayer. He will be followed by 11 generations who will pass on the valuable experience of winemaking from father to son.
At the end of the XIX century the crisis of phylloxera began to cause great damage to the vineyards of Alsace. Joseph Kattan, after a brilliant research, begins to specialize in vaccinations to combat phylloxera. He became one of the pioneers of Alsatian winegrowing, having received the coveted diploma "Vignoble Model" for his vineyard. His brother Theodore was engaged in gastronomy, settling in the restaurant "La Cigogne" in Paris. This elite place, which was often visited by the Parisian bourgeoisie and many foreign guests, became an excellent showcase for Joseph's Alsatian wines. So was born the brand Joseph Cattin . At the end of the 20th century, the descendants of Joseph expanded family vineyards to more than 60 hectares, becoming one of the largest family houses in Alsace with their own vineyards, as well as modernizing the winery. Modern equipment combined with traditional knowledge opens up the possibility of producing high-quality wines that are worthy of appreciation in the global market.
