Interesting Facts
"Judean Heights" Petit Verdot - kosher red dry wine made from Petit Verdot grapes grown under the warm sun of the Jews. The vineyards are located within a radius of 50 km around Hebron. The city of Hebron is located on the Judean hills, at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The climate in this region is influenced by a hilly landscape, a cool breeze blowing from the Mediterranean coast, as well as the hot winds of the Negev desert, which makes the region one of the most ideal for viticulture in Israel. Good humidity helps create atypically fresh and bright wines. The fertile soil in the Hebron hills favors many grape varieties and olive vines. Among the various types of soils, gravel, limestone, and mineral soils with rich basalt deposits predominate. Hebron was already mentioned in the Bible as the area where the Canaanites grew grapes, and this is confirmed by the story of spies sent by Moses for intelligence. When they returned, they brought with them a large bunch of grapes to confirm their words.
Harvest for "Judean Heights" Petit Verdot is harvested after the berries have reached optimum ripeness. Vinification of the drink takes place according to the traditional method of creating dry red wines. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months. The wine harmoniously complements roasted beef, spicy Moroccan dishes cooked in Moroccan Tajine, Mexican salads. Decantation for 1 hour is recommended before serving.
Producer's description
Winery Hevron Heights has become the brainchild of a consortium of supporters of French winemaking in Israel. A Frenchman and native of Morocco, Michel Murchiano founded the company in 2000 with several other French investors, intending to revive the region's long winemaking history. The winery was built in the French style and combines the most modern wine production technologies with traditional French winemaking methods. All equipment of the winery, including the grape reception system, fermentation and storage tanks, are of the highest quality. The tanks are equipped with automatic regulators that constantly maintain the desired temperature.
The wine cellar contains 350 barrels of French, American and Hungarian oak, in which the wine is aged. Hevron Heights is a kosher winery, which means that personnel authorized to handle wine and barrels must be supervised by a Jew.
The winery began work in 2001. The main goal was to export most of the products to international markets. The wines were soon noticed by several critics at specialized tasting events abroad. Currently, the winery exports its products to the United States, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Italy and China. Winery Hevron Heights represents a revival of the ancient wine region, and is undoubtedly one of the best in the country.
