Interesting Facts
"Weisser Hase" ("White Rabbit") is a traditional Bavarian light wheat beer, brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Brewing Act of 1516, exclusively from natural ingredients: prepared pure water, barley and wheat malt and hops. The beer has classic characteristics for the variety: fine yeast turbidity, fresh fruity aroma and rich, well-refreshing taste with hints of banana and clove.
Hasen-Bräu is one of the oldest breweries in Augsburg. Its history goes back to 1464. Already in the early Middle Ages, before the founding of Munich, Augsburg brewers formed a proud and respected brewery guild with strict rules. Augsburg beer was allowed to be produced only from water, malt and hops, as required by the city charter of Augsburg in 1156 - 360 years before the adoption of the Bavarian Law on the Purity of Beer. The Augsburg purity law is the first purity law in the history of German beer. At the time, brewing and customer service was done in small breweries. Thus, "Hasen-Brau" was a home brewery and pub (tavern) called "Zu den drey Glass" ("Three glasses"). The name Hasen-Brau is associated with the brewer Martin Eberle. One day the hare got lost and went into the pub. In a frantic pursuit of the hare right through the tavern, Eberle fell on the bow. His victim was not harmed, and the landlord was named "Hazen-Proy" (hare brewer).
Hazen-Broy has been the embodiment of the brewing tradition of Augsburg since 1464. The brewery is not only very proud of this, but also considers it its duty to preserve this heritage. As before, she brews beer in the best traditions: according to traditional recipes, by hand, with a lot of time and care. Only carefully selected and strictly controlled raw materials are used for brewing: crystal clear and especially soft water, malt from local spring barley, own selection yeast and the best aromatic hops from Hallertau. Since 2004, the brewery has been part of the Radeberger Gruppe, a division of the Oetker Group.
The Radeberger Gruppe is Germany's largest brewing group. The company is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main and produces beer and soft drinks in 16 different locations. The group has an approximate annual production of 13 million hectoliters of drinks, of which about 15% of beer production in Germany.
