Producer's description
The Luigi Bosca winery, with more than a century of history, rich in tradition, experience and deep knowledge of the values of the region, is considered one of the oldest in Mendoza. Leoncio Arizu arrived in Mendoza in 1890, where he began working in the company of his uncle, who was engaged in the sale of wines. In 1901, the family's first vineyard appeared. Since 1908, Leoncio began managing the family farm. A very interesting fact is that the winery got its name in honor of family friend and winemaker, Luigi Bosca, and not in honor of Leoncio Arizu himself. The thing is that Leoncio’s brother at that time had already founded another business, to which he gave his name, and his mother’s surname, Ferrari, was not suitable, because there were already world-famous Ferrari cars, as well as an Italian winery with exactly the same title. But despite this, Leoncio's son, Saturnino Arisu, later came up with a motto that read: “our wine is as unique as Ferrari.” But this philosophy was not fully implemented, since Aris never added an equally impressive brand premium to the cost of its excellent wines. Just as Italian engineers and designers improve their machines, the current director of Luigi Bosca, Alberto Arisu, believes that only moving forward makes the winery truly great. One of the main advantages of the company is the ability to combine traditions and innovations.
The vineyards of Luigi Bosca offer a wonderful view of the Andes, the proximity of which creates an excellent microclimate for growing grapes. Experts believe that many millions of years ago this land was the bottom of the ocean, due to which the soils are dominated by clay, tektites and pebbles. The grapes grown here perfectly reflect the characteristics of the terroir; research and tests are carried out during the ripening process to determine optimal ripeness. When aging wine in oak barrels, the level is checked and topped up twice a week, and to release the carbon dioxide that enters the young wine, the barrels are gently tapped with a wooden hammer before closing. In short, everything at the winery is done to protect, preserve and express the character of the delicious grapes.
