Producer's description
The Folonari family produces wine in Tuscany for eight generations. In 1999, they began to acquire land in Bolgheri on the coast of Tuscany, where they now produce three wines: classic white and two reds. This western area of Tuscany, which overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea, surrounds the ancient village of Bolgheri. In 1994 the Bolger DOC was created for red wines from the world's recognized grape varieties. The classification has since become world-famous and respected in the world of wine.
Founder Lorenzo Folonari, born in Valtelline in 1729, moved his family to Val Camonica, an area designed to become the cradle of a line of entrepreneurs who would associate their name with trade first in Brescia and then with the production of wine. In 1882, the brothers Italo and Francesco Folonari moved the company headquarters from Val Camonica to Brescia, and then named it Fratelli Folonari. About 10 years later in 1911 they bought the historic Tuscan winery Ruffino, famous for its wines in Italy.
Honorary President Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari Tenut founded the company in 2000 with his son Giovanni, president today, to improve the estates and produce high-quality wines. Born in 1930 from a family that has worked in the wine sector for at least 2 centuries, Ambrogio graduated from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in Florence and, after graduation, immediately devoted himself to the wine-making activities of the family.
