Wine ruby-garnet color.
Fresh, lively, elegant wine with a good level of acidity, berry flavor and medium body.
Raspberry-strawberry flavor of the wine is marked by notes of vanilla, clove, rosemary, thyme and cocoa.
Wine ideally emphasize the taste of calf carpaccio.
Red dry varietal wine Dr. Wehrheim, Spatburgunder is produced from the same grape variety grown in areas located in the German wine region Pfalz. Spatburgunder, known in the rest of Europe under the name Pinot Noir, is grown on soils from colored sandstone formed during the Triassic period. The variegated color of sandstone - from light brown to blood red - is due to the different content of iron oxide. These high nutrient soils are very well suited for growing Riesling and Pinot Noir. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted by vibrating tape. The berries are cleared from the clusters and left for cold maceration, and then undergo a slow temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tankers. Wine is aged 8 months in barriques.
Winery Dr. Wehrheim has been producing high-quality wines since the 1920s. For four generations, traditional grape varieties growing in vineyards with unique terroir characteristics have been vinified in the cellars of the historic Art Nouveau building. Karl-Heinz Wehrheim and his son, Franz, are known for their expressive wines, in the taste of which the terroir features of each vineyard are clearly heard. Own plots of the winery in the Palatinate, the area of which is 17 hectares, provide annually about 5,000 liters of grapes per hectare.
Since 1991, the winery is a member of the VDP (Association of Top Wineries of Germany), in which the requirements of compliance are higher than in the country's national wine legislation. Winery Dr. Wehrheim was one of the first in the region to receive an invitation to become a member of the VDP organization. Moreover, the winery belongs to the association "fünf Winzer fünf Freunde" (the association of premium wineries in the Pfalz region). The purpose of this organization is to produce high quality wines that fully reflect the unique terroir of the vineyards of the Pfalz region.
