Croft is one of the most prominent buildings in Porto. Founded in 1588, the company operates to this day, producing a magnificent port. Initially, the company was called Phayre & Bradley - surnames of its founders. In 1707, Richard Thompson teamed up with Irish brothers Nathaniel and Thomas Phayre Bradleya and the company became to be called Phayre, Bradley & Thompson. After some time, the brothers left the company, and in their place came a new partner - Benjamin tilde, then the winery began to wear the name of Thompson & Tilden. Surname Croft appeared in the title only in 1736, when John Croft, a member of the prominent and wealthy family of winemakers, joined the company. By 1769 in the name of Tilden, Thompson & Croft was only the name of John. Croft family for many decades to develop the production of port wine, and already in 1827 the winery was included in the four largest suppliers of this drink. In 1911, the company acquires a prominent English family vintners Gilbeys.
Despite the rich heritage and history, which has more than 4 centuries, the house Croft never hung up on tradition. Today, as in the past, the company maintains pioneering spirit, continuing to create innovative products such as Croft Pink - the first ever pink port.
