Reviews of purchase Craggy Range, "Sophia", 2011
The wine is dark red in color.
Taste wine shows rich and sweet fruit tones and shades of caramel and expressive tannins make for a long aftertaste unique elegance.
The aroma of wine is filled with notes of dark berries, black currant liqueur, cocoa and spicy tones of wood shades.
The wine is recommended to serve with meat dishes and cheeses.
"Sophia" means "wisdom". It is the collective wisdom of those who make wine at the moment, left a legacy of previous generations. The wine is made from the best grapes of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with a small addition of Cabernet Sauvignon, grown exclusively in the vineyard Gimblett Gravels, located on the right bank of the river Ngaruroro. "Sophia" - special, always stylish wine with rich textures, evocative of the past.
After hand-picking, the grapes cleaned from the crests and fermented in oak barrels sealed with neutral inoculated yeast. Duration - 19 months - aging wine is also produced in French oak barrels, of which 80% - new. Storage capacity of wine is great, it is up to 15-20 years.
Craggy Range Winery - one of the famous wineries in New Zealand, producing perhaps the best wine in the country. Terry Peabody and his family for a long time looked for the area to carry out their dreams - the best of New Zealand's wine production. It is the desire to create something really worthwhile led Terry Peabody and his friend Steve Smith in 1997, the idea of creating Creggy Range. Instead, they took the decision to buy the best vineyards, chose a place for their houses, cellars and restaurants. Their main goal was to produce a wine that it fully reflects the characteristics of the terroir of the vineyard, and was just the best. They have made enormous efforts to achieve this ambitious goal.
At present, the family-owned company continues to pursue this goal. At the head of the winery stands Terry Peabody, which plays a major role in the promotion and development of the company and its products. Mary Peabody engaged in restaurants, hotels and organization of various events. Steve Smith became the winemaker - Decanter recently awarded him the title of one of the most influential figures in the wine world.
Creggy Range owns several wineries. Particularly impressive winery "Giants" at the foot of the peak Te Mata, where there are three cellars, each of which is designed for a particular grape variety. Winery "State Highway 50" production process is completely closed cycle - from vintage to bottling and storage.
Respect for tradition is the basis of the best wines, but the use of modern methods and technologies not only does not prevent, but rather helps to preserve quality. That's right, combining innovation and tradition, old and new, art and technology, produces wine Craggy Range.
