Interesting Facts
The name Armagnac "Cles des Ducs" VSOP, Armagnac AOC in approximate translation means "Keys of the Dukes." The name, form, sounding so important and aristocratic, also affects the content: the taste of Armagnac surprises with truly royal nobility and grace. Producer's description
The history of the Armagnac house of Cles des Ducs is inseparable from the long history of the provinces of Armagnac and Gascony. The terrible land of the color of fiery heat helped establish the tradition embodied in this noble and elegant drink. The first fruit alcohols, bearing the romantic name "eaux-de-vie" ("water of life"), appeared here in the 15th century. Cellar houses are located in the village of Panjas municipality, in the center of the Jer department. The master of assembly, Jerome Zadro, took over many years of experience from Philip Lazam, who held a similar position for 35 years.
Distinctive features of Cles des Ducs:
- Armagnacs are produced mainly from Uni Blanc grapes;
- the effect of Limousin oak wood on grape spirits is very insignificant (which contributes to the preservation of a fruit and flower bouquet)
- preference is given to oak barrels of medium and light degree of firing;
- aging of alcohols in new barrels is limited to a period of 3-4 months (to minimize the number of woody notes in a bouquet);
- blended Armagnacs are aged much longer than the periods indicated by the regulations of the Interprofessional organization;
- grapes are grown in the Armagnac zones, known for their red soil (with a high content of sandstone);
- to categorize Armagnacs, the corresponding cognac formula is used (VS, VSOP, NAPOLEON and XO);
