Wine Chryseia, Douro DOC, 2004

"Chryseia" - a relatively new product in the company "Prats and Symington." For the first time the wine was produced in 1999. Name "Chryseia" in Greek means "gold". This wine symbolizes the union of Portuguese tradition and Bordeaux to create a new modern style of wine.

Unusually warm and dry spring 2004 gave shoots grape rapid growth, and the end of July the vines were in excellent condition. Nevertheless, the planters were concerned about the lack of rainfall and, as a consequence, the potential for crop stress. In August, the impossible - in the Douro have been strongest in the last 104 years the rains. September was also warm and sunny, which gave the perfect conditions for a perfect ripening. Grape harvest began a little later than usual - 23 September - 9 October and ended. Handpicked grapes were characterized by high levels of sugar, rich texture and color saturation. Maybe that's why vintage of 2004 seems brighter and sharper than its predecessor in 2003. Aged in new French oak barrels in specially constructed underground cellars give the wine exquisite wood shades. To prevent excessive woody scents that can upset the balance and elegance of the wine extract "Chryseia" is allowed only for a short period of time - from 8 to 12 months - depending on the year. The wine has excellent potential exposure - until 2016, and as they grow older, it will only get better, fully revealing its character.
