Interesting Facts
Wine Chateau Pontet-Caillou is produced from a blend of three grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, grown in appellasone Pessac-Leonian on clay-calcareous soils. The berries are carefully harvested at the stage of full maturity, sent to the winery and carefully sorted. Maceration and fermentation are carried out in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. The wine has a rich, well-balanced taste with fruity notes and mineral hues.
Producer's description
The Chateau Pontet-Caillou winery appeared thanks to the happy meeting of Dominic Haverlan, the winemaker and owner of the Chateau, and Francis Dumigron, the agronomist who dreamed of creating vineyards in Pessac-Leonyan in a section of pine forest destroyed by the 1999 storm. The best methods and knowledge were put at the service of creating a high-quality vineyard worthy of this great terroir. So, in 2004, a vineyard of 13 hectares appeared. It is crossed by a gravel ridge, giving the impression of a “small bridge” (Pontet) connecting Grave (Caillou) with the forest of the Gironde. Harmony between the terroir, the exposure and the cultivated grapes already in 2006 showed a high potential and quality of the first crop.
