Producer's description
Phelan Segur is located in the north of Saint-Estephe. The castle owns 180 hectares, of which 64 are vineyards. The nearest neighbors are Chateau Montrose and Chateau Calon-Segour. The farm has been in decline for a long time, but recently it has been restored and put in order by the current owner, Xavier Gardinier. The result can be assessed already by the wines of the vintages of the 80s. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using reverse osmosis. It is aged for 18 months in French barriques, half of which are new.
Prior to the abolition of the Cru Bourgeois 2003 classification, Château Phelan-Segur occupied the highest level in the hierarchy - Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.
