Tasting Notes
Wine rich purple color.
The wine has a restrained, elegant but at the same time expressive taste with hints of fruit, well-balanced acidity and a long, pleasant aftertaste.
The wine shows an elegant aroma, notes of woven black and red currants, underbrush, cedar, earth, tar and balsamic vinegar.
The wine goes well with lamb grilled beef stew and mature cheeses.
Interesting Facts
Red wine Chateau La Gaffeliere is made from a blend of two grape varieties - Merlot and Cabernet Franc, grown in the vineyards of Chateau la Gaffeler. After harvesting, the berries are sorted, and then subjected to fermentation and maceration at a controlled temperature. Wine is aged in oak barrels for 16-18 months.
Chateau la Gaffeler has a long history, the first mention of it say that the Chateau was built on the ruins of the Gallo-Roman villa. In the 17th century became the owner of the castle Count Male, Roquefort, and towards the end of the 19th century Chateau was divided into two parts: Château Canon-la-Gaffeler and Chateau Gaffeler Naude (which in 1963 was renamed the Chateau la Gaffeler). After three centuries of Chateau still belongs to the family of Male-Roquefort. Its area is 22 hectares of vineyards, of which 66% are planted with Merlot, and the rest is divided equally between Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The farm produces two wines: the first wine Château la Gaffeler class Premiers Grands Crus, and the second wine Clos la Gaffeler.
