Interesting Facts
Chateau Croix-Mouton is an excellent dry red wine with an elegant fruity-spicy aroma and a well-balanced taste, which is emphasized by soft velvety tannins and moderate acidity. The Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superior region encompasses a vast geographic region with a wide variety of terroirs. Representing more than 50% of all wine production in France, Bordeaux wines are immensely popular for their unique style, a successful combination of elegance and aromatic complexity. The vineyards from which the crops are harvested for the production of Château Croix-Mouton are planted on clay alluvial soils. The vines produce fruit with a concentrated, complex flavor. After harvesting, the berries undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. The aging of wine in French oak barrels gives the drink a rich color and fills the taste with subtle oak shades.
Jean-Philippe Jeanuex bought the Croix-Mouton estate in 1997. Château Croix-Mouton is located on the banks of the Dordogne river, in the commune of Lugon, on the clay soils of the Ile de Carni. The Chateau vineyard covers 70 hectares. It mainly grows the Merlot variety. The clayey-silty soil of the vineyard allows for excellent, very flattering wines, available at a young age.
The peculiarity of the Château Croix-Mouton label is that the letter "M" changes every year - this is a way to indicate vintage in different colors and shapes, because each year has its own personality.
