The wine has a soft, harmonious taste with velvety tannins, notes of dark berries, chocolate and herbs, with a balanced acidity and a pleasant aftertaste.
The complex aroma of wine is filled with tones of raspberries, plums, spices and thin vanilla tints.
The wine is perfectly combined with grilled meat, grilled dishes, fish, rice, risotto and mature cheeses.
"Castillo de Almansa" - a wine list made from grapes grown on the unique vineyard "Finca los Timonares" at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level. The vineyard uses organic methods of vine cultivation.
"Castillo de Almansa" Reserva , Almansa DO - red dry wine from a blend of grape varieties Monastrel, Garnacha Tintorore and Tempranillo. The average age of the vines is 45-65 years. The harvest begins in early September with the Tempranillo variety, and ends in late October with the Monastrel variety. Each variety is fermented separately for 3-4 weeks at a temperature of 27-28 ° C. Young wine is placed in steel containers, where it is aged for 8-10 months, then the wines are mixed and placed in barrels of American oak with a volume of 300 liters for further exposure for 12 months. Before entering the market, the wine is additionally aged 9-12 months in bottles in the cellars of the winery.
At international competitions, the wine received awards:
- a gold medal at the Berliner Wein Trophy, 2016;
- a silver medal on the "Mundus Vini, 2016";
- silver medal on "Mundus Vini, 2015";
- a gold medal on the "Mundus Vini, 2014";
The Piqueras winery was founded in 1915 by the Piqueeras family. It is located in the region of Almansa in the south-east of Spain, 60 km from Alicante and the Mediterranean Sea. This wine-growing region is characterized by low yields due to the low amount of precipitation. Semi-arid continental climate allows to receive wines with rich color and aroma. Wines are usually made from local varieties of grapes - Garnacha Tintorora and Monastrel. In 1972 the brand "Castillo de Almansa" entered the market.
In 2001, the winery acquired the vineyard Finca los Timonares. In 2003, the opening of a new plant with an area of 7,000 sq.m. and a production capacity of 3,000,000 liters of wine.
Since 2010, the company is run by Pablo and Javier, the fourth generation of the Piqueas family. The main goal of the winemaking industry is the production of high-quality wines, which are represented in the markets of more than 40 countries of the world.
