A great admirer of the positivist culture of the nineteenth century, Count Casabella , Luigi Montemartini, built the first social cellars in the Piacento area. The forerunner of time, he saw unity in the lifestyle of small entrepreneurs. With this intention, he creates a consortium between the wine-making municipalities of the provinces of Alessandria, Cuneo, Piacenza, Pavia and Turin. In 1911, through the contributions of winemakers, he creates a general fund for the compensation of damage caused by climatic phenomena, especially hail. The management of the Montemartini family ceased in 1914. In the estate Casabella, in Ziano Piacentino, over time various objects appeared.
In 1991, a group of partners took part of the property in Piacenza, fifty hectares of land, which today, as then, is the pride of this area. Here they grow local red grapes varieties Bonarda and Barbera, and white varieties Ortrugo and Malvasia. Ortrugo is one of the most ancient autochthonous varieties of Piacenza, which is almost nowhere else found outside this province. Winemakers play a big role. About the inquisitive and respecting ancient traditions, they produce products of the highest quality known all over the world.
In 1998, the company acquired another winery, right at the foot of the legendary medieval castle of Castel Arcuato, located near Piacenza. Now Cantine Casabella produces wines from two vineyards of Piacenza - Jiani and Castel Arcuato.
Today, Casabella is managed by dynamic Gianfranco Rossi. From year to year, Casabella farms produce wines that convey the unique characteristics of the terroir, which have already received recognition both in the domestic and international markets, including in Russia and China. The company's annual turnover is about € 7 million.
