Wine Casa Castillo, "Las Gravas", Jumilla DO, 2013
Reviews of purchase Casa Castillo, "Las Gravas", Jumilla DO, 2013
The wine has a dark ruby color with pomegranate and purple highlights.
The taste of wine is powerful, elegant and balanced. Accents of black fruits and harmonious mineral accents are emphasized by a good wine structure. And the tinctured nuances, refreshing the taste chord, develop into a firm, juicy aftertaste.
In the rich aroma of wine, spicy notes are beautifully intertwined with cherry accents and nuances of raspberries. Exquisite and sophisticated style of the bouquet is given by the strokes of thyme, rosemary and violets.
This wine will be an excellent addition for roasted red meat, rice, grilled meat, hot snacks.
Red dry wine Casa Castillo, "Las Gravas" creates from cultivated in Jumilla varieties Monastrel, Grenache and Syrah. Grapes are grown in a vineyard, where sandy soils predominate, covered with large boulders. This was the reason to call the wine "Las Gravas" (in Spanish - "gravel", "stones"). Harvest is collected manually, fermented in underground stone tanks, exposing wort pajazh ("capping"), which provides a good contact of wort and pulp for the rich color and tannin taste of the future wine. After fermentation, the wine is aged in 500-liter barrels of French oak (20% new ones) for 18 months.
"According to many connoisseurs, being one of the best wineries in Jumilla, Casa Castillo is a treasure for such varieties as Monastrel (Murvedr), who loves the chalky terroirs and steep slopes of the Sierra del Molar" - Robert Parker.
Casa Castillo is a Spanish farm that created wines since 1874. In 1910, a new winery was built on the territory of the estate by immigrants from France. The invasion of phylloxera on French vineyards forced producers to look for new territories for development. The hearts of the regions that were not affected by the pests were also Jumilla. In 1991, the estate acquires Jose Sanchez-Cerezo in order to engage in the cultivation of rosemary. By the way, the spicy aroma of this plant and is still caught in the estate. In 1985, the farm was reconstructed according to a new project, involving the revival of old vineyards and the acquisition of new sites. In 1991, a new wine cellar was built, and in 1993 - the first commercial vintage "Casa Castillo Crianza, 1991" was released. Today the household is managed by a representative of the third generation - Jose Maria Vincente. The flagship variety is the dominant in Humilje Murvedr (Monastrel), perfectly adapted to the warm and dry climate. In addition to it, Cabernet and Garnacha varieties are cultivated in vineyards. Favorable climate allows you to grow grapes without using chemical treatment.
