Producer's description
Akentoshan Distillery was supposedly founded in 1800, but under the name "Auchentoshan", it has been operating since 1834. Translated from Gaelic, this means "corner of the field." The plant itself is located in the lowlands north of Glasgow, and the source of water consumed - Cochna Loch - is located in the mountains. A feature of the plant is the use of triple distillation, in contrast to the generally accepted double distillation. Some sources claim that Auchentoshan began its history thanks to the Irish immigrants who came here, who brought with them the Irish custom of triple distillation. Affected during World War II, the plant was acquired, rebuilt and refitted by Edie Cairns in 1969. Then, in accordance with the new spelling rules, the plant was renamed and became known as "Auchentoshan".
In 1984, the plant was bought by Morrison Bowmore, which ten years later became a subsidiary of the Japanese corporation Suntory. Suntory, which already owned Bowmore's Islay and Highland Glen Garioch factories, quickly brought Akentoshan to the win, creating a brand with a great reputation. Currently, the plant produces 1650 thousand liters of alcohol per year.
